DGI and EVage Collaborate for Electric Motor Manufacturing in India

DG Innovate (DGI), a renowned UK-based manufacturer of electric drivetrain systems, has announced a groundbreaking joint venture (JV) with Indian electric commercial vehicle startup, EVage Motors. Spearheaded by former Tesla director Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, DGI aims to establish its footprint in the Indian market through this strategic partnership.

The Birth of a Joint Venture

The JV, with a majority stake held by DGI (60%) and the remainder by EVage (40%), signals a significant investment from both entities. According to Inderveer Singh, CEO of EVage Motors, this collaboration will pave the way for the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chandigarh, dedicated to producing DGI’s innovative Pareta electric drive system.

Synergy in Action

While DGI brings its expertise in design and manufacturing to the table, EVage provides invaluable insights into the Indian market dynamics, facilitating seamless market penetration. The initial output from the manufacturing plant will cater to EVage’s own fleet requirements, with plans to subsequently supply motors to external clients.

EVage: Driving India’s Electric Revolution

Founded in 2014 by Inderveer Singh, EVage Motors has been instrumental in supplying all-electric commercial vehicles to leading logistics firms in India. With its Modular Miniature Manufacturing (Mcube) factory in Chandigarh, EVage has already made significant strides in indigenous electric vehicle production.

A Vision for Global Expansion

Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, speaking on behalf of DGI, expressed his optimism regarding the JV’s potential to tap into the burgeoning Indian market and establish a robust global manufacturing base. The company envisions exporting motors manufactured through this JV to other Asian and European countries, leveraging India’s conducive manufacturing ecosystem.

Fostering Electric Vehicle Adoption in India

In light of India’s accelerating pace of electric vehicle (EV) adoption, driven primarily by the fleet-driven nature of the market, both DGI and EVage are poised to capitalize on the country’s favorable business environment. With government initiatives like the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 incentivizing EV adoption, the timing couldn’t be more opportune.

Innovating for Sustainability

DGI’s flagship Pareta motor, renowned for its compact design and exceptional efficiency, promises to revolutionize the EV landscape. With plans to develop multiple variants catering to diverse vehicle segments, the JV aims to commence manufacturing operations within the next year.

Expertise and Collaboration

The JV boasts a stellar lineup of industry veterans, including Pierre Pellerey, renowned for his contributions to motor design at Tesla and Dyson. With a team comprising former Tesla managers and engineers, DGI is well-positioned to leverage cutting-edge technology for sustainable mobility solutions.

Embracing a Promising Future

Against the backdrop of India’s burgeoning EV ecosystem, characterized by significant milestones such as the surpassing of 1 Lakh electric two-wheeler registrations in March, the JV between DGI and EVage represents a significant leap forward. As the government continues to champion electric mobility, initiatives like the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 are poised to accelerate India’s transition towards a greener future.
